Abstract

105,186. Dampier, R. F. Aug. 14, 1916. Sliding sashes removable from frame; sash-cord attachments.-Relates to windows in which the sashes may be removed from the frame and turned inside the room to facilitate the cleaning, painting, and repairing of the outsides thereof &c. The central portions of the parting-beads m and the lower portions of the stop-beads s are removable, the former being held in position by friction, and the latter by thumb-screws. The removable portions of the stop-beads are provided at one end with a hook b. When these portions of the parting and stop beads are removed, the sashes t, t' may be turned down into the horizontal position shown in Figs. 6 and 12, and secured at one end by passing the removed parting-beads m beneath stops e on the frame, and at the other end by hooking the removed portions of the stop-beads into slotted plates on the frame and screwing the thumb-screws on the stop-beads into screwed apertures in the ends of the sashes, the stop-beads thus acting as struts for the sashes. A single cord o and weight f on each side of the window serve for both sashes. The cords pass over pulleys a projecting from their carrying-plate inside the frame, are housed in grooves g in the frame normally covered by the lower sash, and are attached to the lower ends of the sashes by swivel connexions, shown in Figs. 8 and 11, to allow the sashes to be turned into an horizontal position. Each swivel connexion comprises a socket-piece k for the cord, which slides in the groove g in the window frame, and a frame x secured to the sash and turning on a pivot q secured to the socket.
