Abstract

1,051,470. Battery charging circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Oct. 14. 1965, No. 43585/65. Heading H2H. A battery charging circuit has a thyristor 16 which is rendered conductive only when the voltage across the output circuit 14 is greater than zero and less than a value corresponding to the fully charged condition of the battery. When a transistor 18 has its base at a negative potential relative to the emitter through a circuit 20-23, collector current can flow to the trigger terminal 19 of the thyristor permitting forward conduction. At a determined battery voltage the transistor and hence the thyristor is cut off. A diode 25 prevents reverse biasing of terminal 19. Should terminals 14 become shorted, the transistor remains cut off.
