[Also in Division F1] To reduce siren noise in axial flow bladed machines such as compressors and turbines, auxiliary air or liquid is supplied to the interior 7, Fig. 2 (not shown), of the stator or rotor blades 6 to issue through a slot 9 in each blade trailing edge as a stream 8 and accelerate the wake 10 behind the blade, caused by boundary layer effects, to substantially the speed of the working medium outside the wake.
