Abstract
1,051,361. Apparatus for setting buttons. SCRU-FIX Ltd. Feb. 9, 1965 [Jan. 17, 1964], No. 2147/64. Heading A3H. [Also in Division B4] A machine for attaching buttons to cloth comprises means for advancing a button head holder to grip the cloth between the holder and an anvil block and means for producing relative movement between the button head and a base plate on the anvil block to attach them to the cloth. The button head is supported by a pair of plates 78 in a vertically reciprocating holder and the button base plates are fed from a slotted guide in a plate 9 reciprocating in a screw hopper 29 to a gate 38 which releases the button base plates one at a time to a finger 53 slidable on the anvil block. A ram 58 reciprocates in the anvil block and forces the prong of the bore plate thereon through the cloth into the shank of the button head. The button head supporting plates 78 are connected to a frame structure 79 adjustably supported on a reciprocating shaft 61 connected to a pivoted bar 14. One plate 78 is movable against spring pressure to release the button head. The shaft 61 supports a presser foot 73 for pressing the cloth against the anvil block. The end of the shaft has a presser pad for engaging the top of the button head. The gate 38 comprises spaced spring urged stop and release pins operated by a cam surface on a lever 47 connected to the bar 14. The lower end of the feed rails in the gate is pivoted by a lever 51 to allow removal of heads and the stop pin may be manually operated to change the hopper. The bar 14 which operates the shaft 61, the finger 53, the lever 47 and the ram 58, is oscillated by a link 15 pivoted to a crank disc 18 indirectly driven by an electrically driven belt 21. The hopper feed plate 9 is reciprocated by a linkage having a pin engaging in a cam groove in a cam disc 24 driven by a chain from the crank disc 18. The button may comprise a shanked head which has a pocket for frictionally receiving the stem of the base plate. The stem may have a screw thread. A cloth engaging washer or pressure plate may be mounted on the plate. Alternatively the base plate has a socket to receive a stem on the button head.
