Abstract
1,051,141. Cutting grass-verges. W. G. LUPTON. July 10, 1963 [April 11, 1962], No. 13903/62. Heading A1F. A tractor-mounted verge-trimmer comprises a frame 1 and a hood 2 in which is mounted a power-driven horizontal shaft 3 to which are connected a series of parallel horizontal shafts 3A each carrying freelyswinging cutter-blades 4, the device being supported by linkage 10-14 enabling it to be angularly-positioned, raised and lowered and also moved horizontally relatively to the tractor. The hood is provided with skids 7, and with fixed internal beater-bars 5 which assist in lacerating the vegetation. The shaft 3 is driven by a hydraulic motor 6 and hydraulic rams 17, 19, 20 are provided for moving the device in the various directions. The whole machine is pivoted about a vertical pivot 22 on the tractor chassis 15 and may be held in a transversely-extending position by a sheer-pin or springs which yield on encountering excessive deflecting forces. If desired, the weight of the device may be counterbalanced by a weight (not shown).
