Abstract

[Also in Divisions E2 and F2] Apparatus for tipping under the action of gravity a grain bin 1 standing on four short legs 2 comprises a tipping frame 4 on a base supporting structure 3. Bearings 9 are so positioned that the centre of gravity is a short distance in front of the pivot axis, the frame 4 being held horizontal by a latch 23, Fig. 2 (not shown) which may not be released until the bin 1 is clamped to the frame 4 by sliding channels 17, Fig. 4 (not shown) (see Division E2). The rate of tipping is determined by an hydraulic dashpot 30 (see Division F2) which is arranged to give a predetermined free drop at the end of its movement to provide a jolt. An alternative damper 130, Fig. 6 (not shown), is operative as it extends and may be used to lock the bin 1 at an intermediate tipped position. Both forms of damper 30, 130 are rendered ineffective during return movement of the tipping frame 4.
