Abstract

1,050,789. Lifting slings. TURNER BROTHERS ASBESTOS CO. Ltd. Aug. 27, 1965 [June 4. 1964], No. 16888/64. Heading B8H. A sling comprises a protective covering 1 reinforced by a filament of brass-coated steel wire 2 which extends from end to end in a large number of continuous turns. The cover 1 consists of woven cotton cloth proofed with neoprene, balata, or other plastics material. Steel bushes 5 are provided and each may have a web 7, Fig. 3 (not shown), extending between strands 3, 4. The space between the latter is filled by a neoprene plug. One of the bushes may have a loop 12, Fig. 4 (not shown), through which the opposite end of the sling may be threaded. The protective covering comprises several layers and a method of making the sling is described.
