Abstract

105,061. Cutler-Hammer Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Wilson, J. C.). March 23, 1916, [Convention date]. Anemometers; thermometers.-In meters for measuring the flow of fluids by means comprising an electric heating-element disposed between two electric-resistance thermometer elements, screens are provided for preventing the thermometers from being directly affected by radiant energy from the heater, and the heating-element is so constructed that the amounts of energy radiated in opposite directions are equal. The screens have long narrow spaces through which the fluid can pass, and may be carried by the supports for the thermometer elements, or be mounted independently. They may consist of metal strips 52, Fig. 3, halved into each other, or of a number of concentric tubes, the surfaces of the strips or tubes being blackened or otherwise treated to make them good absorbers of heat. The heater comprises a frame 20, Fig. 5, with hooks 21 for supporting the resistance wire 22 and with additional supporting-bars 23. The wire is connected to rods 24 supported by bars 25, and leads 28 are connected to the rods 24. In order to absorb equal quantities of radiant energy on both sides, duplicate or dummy bars and rods 29, 30, Fig. 6, are provided. In a modification, the resistance 32, Fig. 9, is disposed in two planes, supporting- bars 34 are provided, and the terminal rods 35 are mounted centrally. Specification 105,062 is referred to.
