A lamp for mounting in the rear bumper of a motor vehicle to illuminate the number plate consists of a one-piece plastics bulb holder 5 which has two resilient projections 8 which lock below the underside of the bumper and a flange 10 engaging the top of the bumper. and carries two resilient hooks 11 with tails 12, a lens 6 having legs 13 which fit into the bulb holder, projections 14 on the legs engaging the hooks 11 to secure the lens in place, and a metal cover 7 having an aperture through which light from the lamp reaches the number plate.
