Air vents for generating-chambers; solid in separate charges in generator.-In an acetylenegas generator in which a carbide-container E slides into a stationary generating-chamber C, which is supplied with water from a pipe G, and from which gas passes by a pipe F into a gasbell B in a tank A, in order to prevent water from being drawn through the pipe F from the tank A when the carbide-container is withdrawn, an air passage H is formed in the upper part of the generating-chamber C to allow air to pass to the back of the carbide-container. The air passage may be formed by a pipe H open at both ends, or passing at its inner end through the generator A and connected to the bend at the top of the pipe F; or the upper part of the generator A may be partitioned off.
