Abstract

Compounds used as lubricant additives contain one of the elements B, Al, Si, Ge, Sn, As, Sb, Hg or P and the 1,4,5,6,7,7-hexachlorobicyclo-[2,2,1]-5-hepten-2-yl methoxy radical.ALSO:Compounds containing one of the elements B, Al, Ge, Sn, As, Sb, Hg or P (see also Division C3), and the 1,4,5,6,7 - hexachlorobicyclo-[2,2,1]-5-heptenyl radical are prepared by reacting the 2-hydroxymethyl-hexachlorobicycloheptene in presence of an acid acceptor and in a solvent with a compound RxMHalwx wherein R is an optionally halogen-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon radical or a C1- 6 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, M is one of said elements or P = O or P = S and may be attached to R by O, S or N, Hal is halogen, x is 1-4, w is the valency of M and w-x is at least 1. Examples 1, 3 and 4 describe the production of the following compounds. <FORM:1049870/C2/1>ALSO:Silicon compounds containing the 1,4,5,6,7,7-hexachlorobicyclo-[2,2,1]-5-heptenyl radical are prepared by reacting the 2-hydroxymethylhexachlorobicycloheptene in presence of an acid acceptor and in a solvent with a compound RxSiHal4..x wherein R is an optionally halogen substituted aromatic hydrocarbon radical or a C1- 6 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical; the Si may be attached to R by O, S or N, Hal is halogen and x is 1-3.
