Abstract

1, 049, 798. Crystallisation by evaporation. SOCIETE FIVES LILLE-CAIL. Feb. 26, 1964 [Feb. 27, 1963], No. 7990/64. Heading B1B. A solution, e.g. syrup, is continuously crystallized by feeding it into the end compartment 13 of a number of compartments 13, 14, 16 of a horizontal, cylindrical tank, a cluster of parallel, vertical, heating plates 2 arranged in the compartments assisting in the circulation of the solution from compartment to compartment and causing the solution in which the crystals are suspended to undergo evaporation. A controlled supply of the solution is supplied to each compartment, and necessary seed is introduced through a metering pump 27 into compartment 13. The heating plates cause the solution to flow in direction of arrows 11 and 12, spaces 7 and 8 allowing the solution to descend on either side of the cluster. The cluster may be in two parts 1 and 4 extending the length of the tank and fed with steam at different pressures, or may consist of plates arranged parallel to partitions 15 which define the compartments. A worm 19 advances the crystals to hopper 20 for removal, and an overflow 26 controls the height of solution undergoing crystallization. The supply and extraction of the solution and crystals is controlled and the cross-section of apertures 17 and inclination of the deflectors 18 on the particles which assist in the circulation are adjustable. Valve 30 controls the pressure within the tank.
