Fair-leads. - Rotary fair-leads are provided with detents which hold them against rotation and can be thrown into or out of operation to permit of rotation in either direction. The upper surface of the fair-lead a is formed with ratchet teeth g which are engaged by a check pin l inserted in one of a series of holes k formed in a plate h, which is fixed to the stud b In a modification, the teeth are formed on the base c, and the pins pass through the sheave. In another modification, two concentric sets of ratchet teeth are provided, one set preventing rotation in one direction and the other set in the other. Instead of two sets of ratchet teeth, one set of holes with vertical sides may be provided, the pins being vertical on one side and sloped on the other and inserted so as to act in the required direction.
