Abstract

1,049,581. Cutting apparatus. KIRBY'S (ENGINEERS) Ltd. Jan. 11, 1965 [Jan. 28, 1964; Oct. 20, 1964], Nos. 3520/64 and 42656/64. Heading B4B. Rotary apparatus for cutting cardboard and like flexible material passed through the nip between a driven die carrying roller 10 and an impression roller 11 includes protuberant elements 12 to bite into and strip waste, provided on the periphery of one or both rollers or on the periphery of an arcuate sheath 111 fitted thereon at places corresponding with the location of the waste. The protuberant elements may be pointed headed spikes, screws or arcuate members with intermediate upstanding knife edges, which may be secured to the roller or sheath by adhesive, welding or riveting. Inclined blades 15 are provided for removal of the waste. To change the areas to be stripped, the existing protuberances may be swept off the sheath by a heavy rod. In a further embodiment the sheath 111 may be pierced to provide triangular upstanding pointed tangs.
