Abstract

Epoxy resins are hardened by mixing intimately with 2-20%, preferably 8-12%, by weight of the resin, of B-tributylamino-N-tributyl-borazole, and progressively heating the mixture at temperatures from 100 DEG -270 DEG C. over 1 to 2 days. A pressure below atmospheric aids de-aeration during mixing. In Examples (1) an epoxy novolak from epichlorhydrin and a novolak resin and 10% by weight of the borazole are mixed at 60 DEG C., below atmospheric pressure, and heated at 140 DEG C. for 20 hours, 200 DEG C. for 3 hours, 230 DEG C. for 3 hours and at 260 DEG C. for 4 hours, (2) a glycidyl polyether from epichlorhydrin and bisphenol A and 8% by weight of the borazole are heated at 140 DEG C. for 18 hours, 200 DEG C. for 3 hours, 230 DEG C. for 3 hours and at 260 DEG C. for 4 hours, (3) an epoxy polyolefine of formula <FORM:1049416/C3/1> and 12% of the catalyst are heated at 120 DEG C. for 27 hours, 175 DEG C. for 4 hours, and at 200 DEG C. for 9 hours, and (4) an epoxy cyclopolyolefine of formula <FORM:1049416/C3/2> with 14% of the catalyst is heated at 120 DEG C. for 30 hours, 160 DEG C. for 4 hours and 200 DEG C. for 10 hours. Uses.-High temperature electrical insulation.
