Abstract
A bowling pin comprises a tacky and fluid protective layer between its core and surface coating. Preferably the protective layer comprises a composition of butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, a phenolic resin modifier, and a plasticizer such as dioctyl phthalate, and is reinforced with nylon mesh, whilst the core comprises maple wood and the surface coating comprises either nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate butyrate, or ethyl cellulose.ALSO:A bowling pin comprises a protective, tacky and fluid layer between its core and surface coating. Suitable compositions for the protective layer comprise non-curing, adhesive copolymers with a high acrylonitrile content, or butyl rubber adhesives of the non-curing type, but preferably the layer comprises a composition of butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer, a phenolic resin modifier, acid a plasticizer such as dioctyl phthalate, and is reinforced with nylon mesh. The core of the pin is of maple wood, and the surface coating comprises either nitro-cellulose, cellulose acetate butyrate or ethyl cellulose, with the optional addition of a plasticizer such as dioctyl phthalate to promote contraction of the cover on to the coated core. Preferably both the protective and surface coatings are applied by a dipping method, one or more dips being effected in each instance.
