A loop for applying to the neck of an animal for assisting its birth comprises a nylon tape 14 both ends of which pass along a tube 10 of plastics material to form a loop 14 at one end of the tube. At the other end of the tube, one end of the tape is fixed, the other end of the tape being passed out of the tube and under an adjustable locking ring 16 carried by the tube so that the size of the loop may be adjusted.
