Abstract

1,048,678. Spray-producers. A. SCHROEDER. Feb. 1, 1965, No. 4377/65. Heading B2F. A mixture of salt and water, the proportion of water in the mixture being less than that required to produce a solution but sufficient to ensure that the salt is completely soaked, is spread over the ground to accelerate the melting of snow or ice by a wheeled apparatus comprising a mixture container 2 housing an agitator 3, a throttle valve 5, a vertical discharge tube 6 and a frusto-conical spreader head 8 depending from the tube and supported and rotatable relative thereto by a shaft 11 driven by a variable drive device 10. The spreader head, which incorporates a slotted partition 7, may be of synthetic plastics suitably reinforced around its rims with metal attachments or inserts. The shaft 11 carries ascrew-feeder 12. In a modified apparatus the salt is fed in a dry state from one container to immediately above the head partition 7, the water being pumped from a second container to the same space to be mixed with the salt.
