Abstract

A greige fabric is coated with at least one epoxy acrylic, or urethane resin, or mixture thereof, such that the yarns are joined together at their intersections without the interstices between warp and weft being plugged with resin, and thereafter the resin coatings are cured. The fabric may be made of polyolefin, nylon, polyester, silicate or other synthetic resinous and naturally-occurring animal and vegetable fibres. The fabrics may have been pre-treated e.g. by application of a phenolic-aldehyde resin, curing, application of a melamine-aldehyde resin, and curing prior to application of the epoxy, acrylic, or urethane resin, or mixture thereof. The fabric is desirably tensioned in both directions prior to application of the resin, which may be carried out by roll, brush, spray, or dip. The application may be carried out in more than one step with partial curing of the resin between the steps. The same or different resins may be applied in the various steps. Resins plugging the interstices of the fabric may be blown out with compressed air. The fabric may be used in a papermaking machine.ALSO:A greige fabric is coated with at least one epoxy, acrylic, or urethane resin, or a mixture thereof, such that the yarns are joined together at their intersections without the interstices between warp and weft being plugged with resin, and thereafter the resin coatings are cured. The fabric may be made of polyolefin, nylon, polyester, silicate or other synthetic resinous and naturally occurring animal and vegetable fibres. The fabrics may have been pre-treated e.g. by application of a phenolicaldehyde resin, curing, application of an aminoaldehyde resin, and curing prior to application of the epoxy, acrylic, or urethane resin, or mixture thereof. The fabric is preferably tensioned in both directions prior to application of the resin, which may be made by roll, brush, spray or dip. Coating may be carried out in more than one step, the coatings being partially cured between each step. The same or different resins may be applied in the several steps. Resin plugging fabric interstices may be blown out with compressed air.
