Abstract

Ceramics and glassware are gilded by baking on a liquid bright gold comprising a gold resinate and gold oleate; rosin, sulphonated oil of turpentine and/or asphalt may be present. Preferably the gold in oleate form is 0.1-20% by weight of the total gold content, the remainder being in the resinate. The liquid bright gold may be made by boiling oil of turpentine and oleic acid with sulphur and adding gold chloride in aqueous or methanol solution.
