Abstract

1,048,121. Engine stop gear. A. O. HEMUS. May 6, 19.63 [Feb. 5, 1962; June 1, 1962], Nos. 4269/62 and 21153/62. Heading F1K. [Also in Division H2] An electric switch (see Division H2) is operated when a vehicle, for example, a tractor, assumes a predetermined angle of tilt and closes a circuit to stop the vehicle engine, if a seat-operated series switch is closed by the driver sitting on the vehicle seat. In one embodiment (for a diesel engine) a solenoid is energized to pull a bowden cable attached to the engine fuel pump stop-lever (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) while another embodiment has the bowden cable arranged to be pulled by a spring normally retained in compression by a latch which is spring-urged to the release position but restrained by a fusible link in the switch circuit (Figs. 10 to 14, not shown). In the case of petrol engined vehicles the closure of the tilt switch is arranged to switch off the ignition system.
