Abstract
1,047,994. Core constructions; inductor alternators. -CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Jan. 4, 1965, No.261/65. Heading H2A. A high-speed inductor alternator comprises a solid rotor, mounted in bearings 19, with elliptical polepieces 16, 17 having their major axes mutually perpendicular. Situated between the polepieces and surrounding portions 18 of the rotor are D.C. energized field coils 13 which are held stationary by clamping system 27. The co-operating stator has windings 24 and both transverse laminations 36, 40, 42 and toroidal laminations 38. In practice the axes of the rotor poles are displaced by slightly more than 90 degrees in order to reduce the harmonic content of the output waveform.
