[Also in Divisions A1, A6 and B7] An apparatus for carrying a floor cleaning or polishing device comprises a frame 18 having at one end pivots 20, 22 in which is mounted an arm 28 carrying a caster wheel 32 or, in a modification, a pair of inclined idler rollers and at the other a stirrup member 16 in which is rotatably mounted a shaft 14 driven through gearing 38, 40 from an electric motor 34. Wheels 10, 12 ar fixed to shaft 14 and a pair of cones 42, 44 are ratatably mounted thereon. The vehicle travels over a guide rod or wire 48 suitably arranged over the surface being treated and should it deviate from its path, one or other roller will ride up on the member 48 thereby disengaging its associated wheel from the ground. The other wheel will then turn the vehicle so that it again follows the path defined by the member 48. In modifications, the cones 42 and 44 are replaced by cylindrical rollers (50, 52) which rotate on inclined shafts (54, 56, Fig. 5, not shown) or by stepped cones (Fig. 10, not shown), or by cylindrical discs (122. Fig. 13 not shown) or by discs (128, Fig. 14, not shown) which are cylindricalsectors, the upper, inoperative part of the cylinder being cut away. In another modification, Fig. 9, not shown) the frame 18 is omitted and the driving motor and gears are located within the rollers, and in a development of this, Fig. 15, the rollers are also the driving wheels. In another modification, Figs. 11 and 12 the cones are driven and the caster wheel is replaced by an annular skid 116. In a further modification, (Fig. 16, not shown), the wheel and roller on one side are smaller than those on the other, so that, should the device leave the member 48, it will follow o circular path until it returns. Instead of wheels, endless tracks may be provided.
