Abstract

An acid-insoluble instructional oligopoly-nucleotide is obtained from the mycelium of Streptomyces, Pencillium, Aspergillus, Zygomycetes, Saccharomycetes or Ustilago by (a) rendering the mycelium non-viable (b) disrupting the cell walls of the non-viable mycelium to obtain access to the polynucleotide-containing mycelial protoplasm, and (c) effecting a partial depolymerization of the polynucleotide components contained in the mycelial protoplasm to give oligopolynucleotides having molecular weights in the range 600-1, 000, 000; the pH of the aqueous medium in which any of the steps (a), (b) and (c) may be carried out being in the range 2.7 to 11.3 to avoid disorganization of the instructional nucleotide sequence of the polynucleotide components contained in the protoplasm. Thereapeutical compositions for oral or parenteral administration to humans and animal comprises an acid-insoluble oligopolynucleotide as above.
