Abstract

Unsaturated polyesters are copolymerized using a peroxidic initiator and as an accelerator a stable solution of ascorbic acid and/or isoascorbic acid dissolved in a trialkyl phosphate or phosphite, the alkyl groups containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms. In the examples a styrene-based unsaturated polyester is cured using methyl ethyl ketone peroxide or benzoyl peroxide and ascorbic acid or isoascorbic acid dissolved in triethyl phosphite. A cobalt accelerator or dimethyl aniline may also be present.
