1,046,486. Coating-apparatus; spray producers. N.R.WALLIS. July 19, 1963 [July 19, 1962; Aug. 9, 1962], No. 27764/62 and 30499/62. Headings B2B and B2F. Apparatus for moving finely divided material towards an article includes a rotatable member having a periphery in the form of a portion of the surface of a sphere or spheroid having no sharp edges, means for supplying said material to said member, means for rotating said member so that said material is ejected from said member by centrifugal force, and means for maintaining an electrostatic field between said member, or a part thereof, and said article. Sharp edges are defined as including shapes such as points, thin wires or the like conducive to the production of an electrical discharge. The rotating member may be a disc 1, dished to provide an annular trough 4, spaced from a concentric annular member 3. Material to be sprayed is introduced into the space between spindle 7 and the annular member and is sprayed outwards from the gap between the two members by centrifugal force. If the members are of non- conducting material, the spindle must be conducting and the field is established between the spindle and the article.
