Abstract
A process for coating articles with a layer of plastics material comprises heating the article to a temperature above the melting point of the plastics material e.g. about 300 DEG C., and briefly immersing the heated article in a turbulent suspension of a mixture of pulverulent thermoplastic synthetic material and at least one substance having an anti-static effect, the mixture being maintained in a turbulent suspension by a flow of inert gas e.g. air or nitrogen. The anti-static substance may be present from 0.1 to 1.0% by weight of the plastics material. The plastics material may have a granular size of less than 0.1 mm. The anti-static substance may be a polyalcohol, glycerine, glycols, polyglycolether, compound containing SO3H groups and salts thereof, esters, triethanolamine, polyoxyethylene amines, and quaternary ammonium compounds. The plastics material may be polyvinyl chloride, after-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, and copolymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, polyethylene, polycarbonate and polyamide.
