Abstract

The hydroformylation of propylene to produce a hydroformylation product containing bytyraldehydes is carried out by bringing propylene, carbon monoxide and hydrogen into contact with a cobalt-containing hydroformylation catalyst in a reaction zone maintained at elevated temperature and at a pressure within the range 750-1250 atmospheres, the amount of the catalyst being equivalent to 0.002 to 0.05% by weight of cobalt metal on propylene. Comparative examples employ a pressure of 250 atmospheres.
