Abstract

A curable composition comprises a dispersion of polyvinyl chloride in a plasticizer, an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, unsaturated polyester resins inhibited and not inhibited by air, and an air-inhibiting inhibitor. Polymerization may be effected in presence of a peroxide (e.g. hydroxycyclohexanone hydroperoxide or methyl ethyl ketone peroxide) and an accelerator. Both polyesters may be derived from aliphatic dihydric alcohols and a ,b -ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids with modifying dibasic acids. The composition may contain grit, sand, glass fibre cloth, chopped glass fibre. The air-inhibiting inhibitor may be stearyl stearate or laurate or a stearyl ester of coconut oil fatty acids with or without a silicone. The monomer may be styrene, and the composition may also include TiO2, carbon black, black iron oxide, and silica.
