Abstract
1,045,491. Automatic speed control. W. J. BROWN. June 11, 1964 [March 15, 1963], No. 10329/63. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H2] The tachometer of a speed regulating device consists of an inductor alternator having a combined field and output winding, the A.C. output being rectified and matched against a D.C. reference voltage and used to control the speed. In the arrangement shown, the alternator consists of a fixed cup 14 containing the combined field and output winding 9, and a rotating cup 15. Both these cups have similarly castellated flanges to produce the necessary flux pulsation. The output ripple is rectified at 33 and matched against reference rheostat 28, 32, the resultant being fed to unit 5 which controls a variable-speed drive 1, 2. Other forms of tachometer generator are described (see Division H2). The control circuit may incorporate a transistor with its base connected to the reference voltage divider. Various modifications of control circuit are described including the use of a thermionic valve circuit to eliminate transients. The controlled unit 2 may be an electromagnetic clutch.
