A thermoelectric generator comprises a plurality of hermetic units M each containing at least one thermoelectric element P of which one end is thermally connected to a. heat exchange member by means of a pressure device 20 consisting of a bunch of deformable metallic wires or threads held by a support constituted at least partly by an elastomer and arranged to give the pressure device 20 a longitudinal resilience. The elastomer is preferably a silicone elastomer, which may have a bundle of copper wires embedded in it or may be in the form of a rod within a hollow cylindrical copper tress or of a tube enclosing a copper tress. The tube 3 containing the thermoelectric element may itself have thermoelectric properties.
