Abstract
1,045,073. Building pneumatic tyres. YOKOHAMA RUBBER CO. Ltd. June 20, 1963 [June 30, 1962], No. 24615/63. Heading B7C. A method of forming a tyre band comprises the steps of preparing a belt-like assembly including a number of parallel cord layers bonded longitudinally stepwise so that no end edges thereof cross each other, and winding the assembly around a former drum 5 to provide an annular band. To provide a four-ply band, four rolls of ply material are fed under pinch rollers 21 on to conveyer belts 16 while separator sheets are wound on to rollers 15. Each roll of ply material is cut by a device 17 when the material has moved a certain distance along an adjoining conveyer 18. When the four layers 1-4 have been cut they are transferred by means of conveyers 18A on to another conveyer 20, so that the forward end b of the layer 2 lies a prescribed distance behind the forward end a of the layer 1, and the forward ends b, c, d of the layers 2, 3, 4 are similarly spaced. The four layers are bonded together by pressure rollers 25 as the conveyer 20 moves in the direction of arrow 26 in Fig. 5, and so delivers the four-ply assembly to the drum 5.
