Abstract

1,044,098. Aircraft runway lights. KGL LUFTFARTSSTYRELSEH. Sept. 1, 1965, No. 37435/65. Heading F4R. A landing light for aircraft, intended to be embedded in the runway comprises a rigid housing 1 closed by a lid 3 having one or more grooves of gradually decreasing depth and increasing width in the upper surface extending from an aperture or apertures in which a reflector 14 is resiliently mounted and at least one light source 10 within the housing. The cover is supported both by flanges 2 on the housing 1 and by a grid-like structure of bars 7, 8. The rays from the upper half of the light source 10 fall on bent down parts 12a of strips 12 of high conductivity metal underlying the grooves so as to keep these free from snow. The rays from the lower edge of the source 10 also fall on a metallic shield member forming one wall of a funnel loading to a drum hole 27 so that water entering by the reflector aperture is prevented from freezing and allowed to drain away. The cover 3 may project beams or sets of beams in opposite directions or inclined to one another.
