Abstract

1,043,592. Valves. ROTAX Ltd. Feb. 17, 1964 [March 8, 1963], No. 9231/63. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] Air flow between an inlet 11, Fig. 1, and an outlet 12 is controlled by a cup-shaped obturator 27 sliding between two members 13, 17, each secured in the valve body by legs 16. A chamber 21 between the obturator 27 and member 13 is open to the valve body downstream of the seat 27 via a passage 25 and a channel in one of the support legs whilst the chamber inside the obturator is connected to a point 38 upstream of the seat 26 or to atmosphere under the control of a solenoid-actuated shuttle-valve 29 (Fig. 2, not shown); a shuttletype combined relief and regulating valve 44 is disposed between the solenoid valve 29 and the chamber. Each of the two beats 44a, 44b of the latter valve is in a different chamber 40, 40a, but the two chambers are in series, one having the inlet 41a opening therein whilst the other chamber 40a leads to a relief area. When the solenoid 30 is de-energized, the obturator 27 is urged on to the seat 26 by the air acting on an obturator flange; upon energizing the solenoid 30 air is admitted to the inside chamber and opens the valve, whereupon air traverses passage 25 and enters chamber 21 so that the obturator moves to regulate the air flowing to the outlet. The valve 44 ensures that the pressure in the outlet is maintained constant. In a modification, the passage 25 is controlled by a relay valve which is opened when the solenoid is energized.
