Abstract

1,042,381. Treating wood-pulp &c. DE FIBRATOR A.B. Jan. 3, 1964 [Jan. 1, 1963; Oct. 18, 1963], No. 319/64. Heading D2W. [Also in Division B1] Apparatus for use in the continuous production of pulp from lignocellulose-containing material, e.g. wood chips, grass, straw etc., comprises three vessels of which the second (12) is inside the third (14) and communicates with it at the top. The first vessel (10) has an intake (16) for the material and may have an inlet (20) for steam at low pressure to displace air from the pores or interstices of the material. It is connected at its base with the base of the second vessel by means of a channel, such as tubes 24 and 26, containing a screw conveyer (28) that co-operates with at least one counterpressure member (32) to compress the material before release of the pressure below the level of impregnating liquid supplied to the second vessel through an inlet (54). The impregnated material is cooked in the third vessel. As shown, the second and third vessels are heated by steam admitted through the pipe 59, and the cooked material removed by screw-conveyers 64. The level of impregnated material in the third vessel and of liquid in the second is controlled by devices 62 and 58. A jacket 40 may be provided to receive water and steam pressed out of the material by the screw press 28, without loss of pressure. In another embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the second vessel extends nearly to the bottom of the third, and its lower part is surrounded by the impregnated material being cooked.
