Abstract
1,042,314. Valves. K. BLACKMAN Ltd., E. E. TAVENER, and E. J. MARTIN. Sept 13, 1963 [Oct. 5, 1962; Dec. 4, 1962], Nos. 37816/62 and 45841/62. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] Apparatus for controlling the flow of gas to two burners so that the pressure ratio of the gas is maintained constant comprises a valve 2 controlling the flow to a burner 3 and a valve 2A controlling the flow to a burner 3A. Gas is supplied through a pipe 1to the two valves and also through a branch pipe 1B to a manual controller 15 or a temperature controller 14. The controller 14 or 15 provides an adjustable fixed pressure in a conduit 10 which is fed through valve 7 and conduit 10A to load the diaphragm 4 of the valve 2 whereby the outlet pressure of the valve 2 is kept at the value selected by the controller. The outlet from the valve 2 is connected to the burner 3 and also through conduit 6 to provide a loading on the diaphragm 4A of the valve 2. This loading is adjusted by a leak valve 7B to set the lower pressure for the burner 3A. Thus, any variation in the setting of the controller 14 or 15 adjusts the outlet pressure of the valves 2, 2A while maintaining a constant ratio between these pressures. Valves 7A, 7C, 7D are also provided, these valves preferably being connected to a single actuator also common to valves 7 and 7B. whereby the system may be set so that the actuator 14 or 15 sets the pressure of valve 2A and the outlet of this valve sets the pressure of valve 2. A second branch line 1A may be provided which is connected to valves 8, 8A and to a controller 9 which sets a loading on the valves 8, 8A. If the loading pressure for either of valves 2, 2A falls below a value which would provide an undesirable low outlet pressure from these valves, the corresponding valve 8 or 8A opens to maintain the desired loading value. In a modification, the loading pressure of the valves is provided by a fluid separate from the gas supply.
