In a multiple projection system the characters are either raised or engraved in the plane surface of a plano-carvex lens plate. As shown, the lens plate may be rectangular with a number of condensing lenses 16, 17 on one side and shapes, e. g. numbers, to be projected on the other. The shapes may be raised above the surface of the plate, be formed by depressions in the surface, or may be produced by forming an opaque coating over the whole surface and removing the coating by grinding to form the shape. The lens plate may be mounted in a housing 1 having a lamp housing 3 containing a lamp corresponding to each lens a projection lens plate 8 having lenses 9, and a screen 2 on which images of the shapes are projected.
