Abstract
1,041,875. Clutch control. HONDA GIJUTSU KENKYUSHO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. July 16, 1963, No. 28188/63. Heading F2L. [Also in Division G3] A fluid pressure regulator, particularly for a vehicle clutch control system, comprises a rotary casing housing a number of centrifugal valves in parallel between inlet and exhaust openings, and arranged to open at different rotational speeds so that the operating pressure is dependent upon the speed of the casing. The regulator 5 is driven by the vehicle engine 2 and delivers pressure liquid from a pump 4 to a clutchoperating cylinder 1, Fig. 1 (not shown). The liquid from the pump passes through an axial bore 6 in the regulator drive shaft 7 from which it passes through openings 17 in partitions 16 of a hollow disc 8 to the inlets 12, 12<SP>1</SP> of ball valves 13, 13<SP>1</SP> fitted with springs 14, 14<SP>1</SP>. Valve element 13 is heavier than element 13<SP>1</SP> but its spring is not stressed, whereas spring 14<SP>1</SP> exerts a substantial force on element 13<SP>1</SP>, so that as the speed of rotation increases the pressure rises in dependence upon the speed until valve 13 opens and the pressure rise is then governed by valve 13<SP>1</SP>. After passing through exhaust ports 15, 15<SP>1</SP> the liquid enters a space between disc 8 and casing 5 communicating with an exhaust pipe 19. The number of valves may be varied as required, and their individual characteristics determined by such factors as weight of valve element, spring loading, area of inlet port and distance from the axis of rotation.
