Pawls 6 (Fig. 2) which arrest the rotation of a plurality of toothed sectors 3 constantly meshing with adding racks 1 are controlled by solenoids 10 connected to the electronic circuit of a calculating unit, the solenoids acting directly for numerical values 1 to 3 and through a relay and delay device for values 4 to 8. In the form shown, rotation of one of the toothed sectors 3 (Fig. 3, not shown), effected by the rack 1 when one of the keys 49 (Fig. 8, not shown) is depressed, results in the rotation of a contact gear 11 carried on the same shaft so that a printed contact 17 contacts a printed circuit 19 and the numerical values are transmitted to a calculating unit. The results are sent out electrically when a call signal appears, the number 1 being transmitted when current is supplied to the solenoid 10b (Fig. 2), so that the pawl 6b engages the detent 5b to arrest the rack. The numbers 0, 2 and 3 are similarly transmitted. To transmit the number 4, the actuation of the solenoid 10a is delayed via cam operated switches and relays so that the pawl 6a passes the end of the tooth 5a and engages the detent 5b. The numbers 5, 6, 7 and 8 are similarly transmitted. The decimal memory unit has no numerical value corresponding to the number 9 and therefore, since no current will flow in any of the solenoids 10, the pinion 3 turns to its full limit to transmit this number. The results are printed by a type-bar 61 (Fig. 8), controlled by the movement of the rack 1.
