Abstract

1,041,298. Transformers. TRANSFORMERS (WATFORD) Ltd. May 17, 1965 [July 17, 1964], No. 29326/64. Heading HIT. [Also in Division B1] A breather for a transformer (Fig. 1) comprises a transparent tubular casing 11 provided with upper and lower plates 13, 14 and containing a coloured dessication agent, e.g. silica gel; and a further transparent tubular casing 25 mounted on the lower plate 14 and containing oil. The oil seal casing 25 has an inner tubular wall 27 and there is an inverted cup-shaped member 29 mounted on the lower plate 14. The plates 13, 14 and casings 11, 25 are releasably held together by an axial spindle 15 having nuts 16, 30 and a pressure plate 31 held in position by a nut 32 having a stem engaging the spindle 15. To distribute air flow evenly through the silica gel perforated discs 35 are provided in the plates 13, 14, and air flow baffles are provided. In a further form, Fig. 2 (not shown), the lower plate 43 has a central aperture formed by a downwardly directed flange 45 which is surrounded by the tubular oil seal casing 47, and the plates and casings are releasably held together by a surrounding U-bolt assembly. The silica gel is retained in the upper tubular casing 41 by a perforated disc 46 above the lower plate.
