Abstract

1,040,939. Ball joints. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. April 2, 1963 [April 3, 1962], No. 13083/63. Heading E2F. A ball joint comprises a socket 5 and a ball 2 having a rod 3 extending therefrom, the junction between the rod and the ball being made over two arcs of intersection 15, 16 corresponding to arcs of the circular opening 12 of the socket. The socket is made of plastics material and is divided by slits 11 into a plurality of tongues 10 surrounded by a spring ring 13 which ensures a good frictional grip between the socket and ball. The ball and the rod 3 are also made of plastics material and contain a metal reinforcing frame 17 extending between the ball and a fastening foot 4 provided with a hole 18 for a fixing screw. An integral centring stud 20 may be provided beneath the foot. The joint is intended for mounting a sun visor in a vehicle, the socket being attached to or integral with the visor.
