1,040,717. Door fastenings. R. LUCAS. June 10, 1963, No. 23107/63. Heading E2A. A fastening device for a door comprises a casing 2 and a housing member 14 for mounting on the door or door frame or vice versa respectively to extend substantially the vertical height of the door and a member 1 slidably mounted with respect to the casing and to extend substantially the height of the door and means for sliding the member laterally from a position engaging the housing member to a position free of the housing member. As described the means for sliding the member comprises two bell cranks which are pivoted near one end to the casing 2 are pivoted near their centres to the member 1 and have a pin and slot connection to a connecting rod; the connecting rod passes through a lock mechanism 3, the part of the rod passing through the lock mechanism including a rack which is engaged by a gear (not shown) which is turned by the key of the lock mechanism. The member 1 is supported by balls or rollers 7 at various points to ensure ease of movement. Instead of bell cranks the member 1 may be moved from the lock mechanism through eccentrics, cams, racks, pinions, chains or belts.
