[Also in Division 5] In a belt fastening comprising a hinge pin 13 connecting intermeshing U-shaped wire hooks 11, 12 clinched into the belt ends, each hook has a non-circular cross-section presenting a flat face to the pin 13 to distribute the load thereon. The section is preferably a rectangle with rounded corners, but may also be square or a major segment of a circle (Figs. 3a-3d, not shown). The fastening is applicable to the dryer felts of a paper machine.
