Abstract
A pourable polyurethane resin is produced by reacting a diisocyanate and/or triisocyanate under substantially anhydrous conditions with a mixture of 50 to 80 parts by weight of a hexol polyether and 20 to 50 parts by weight of a diol or triol polyether of M.W. 400-1500, which mixture is the product of the reaction of an alkylene oxide with a diol or triol and an alkylene oxide with a hexol. The water contained in the mixture of polyethers may be removed by heating to 120 DEG C. under a reduced pressure for approximately 1 hour with 10% of the quantity of diisocyanate required for substantially complete conversion of the polyether mixture to polyurethane and then the remainder of the diisocyanate is added to the dehydrated mixture cooled below 30 DEG C. In Example (1) a mixture of 400 parts of propoxylated sorbitol of M.W. 650 and 400 parts of propoxylated glycerol of M.W. 700 was reacted with toluene diisocyanate.
