[Also in Division B2 A machine for applying veneer, thin strips of solid wood or strips of synthetic resin to the edge of a panel comprises a feed device 8, 10, 11 for displacing a workpiece through the machine, a stationary glue supply device 3 for applying the glue directly to the edge of a travelling workpiece, and a stationary automatically operating veneer supply device 2 arranged directly beyond the glue supply device in the direction of travel of the workpiece, the glue supply device being adapted to contain glue which is applied mechanically to the workpiece in a hot state and the veneer being pressed down during feeding to the edge without heating in the pressing zone. The machine has front and rear supports 32, 34 which are interconnected by cross-tubes 33. The front support carries a rail assembly 35, and a rear rail assembly 36 is adjustable along the cross-tubes by a hand wheel 6 connected to a torsion tube 29 acting to resiliently urge the rear assembly towards the assembly 35. Each assembly has a workpiece guide rail 13, 14 and driven rollers 11 which carry the workpiece past a glue-applying roller 20 and a spreading device 21, the glue being heated by a device 4 controlled by a thermostat 23. The edging material is stored in strips in a magazine 2 and is fed by a feed magnet 15 having a presser shoe to the nip between the glued edge of the workpiece and presser rollers 10 which may be enclosed by a belt 8. After leaving the rollers, the upper and lower edges of the edge material are trimmed by cutters 25, 26 driven by motors 24 before passing to output rollers 12. The movable parts of the assemblies 35, 36 are driven by a motor 7 supported on scissor arms 31, whereby drive is imparted to the parts in all positions of the assemblies.
