Abstract
1,039,328. Refrigerating; air conditioning. M. FORDSMAND. Oct. 20, 1964 [Oct. 23, 1963], No. 42751/64. Headings F4H and F4V. An air conditioning unit adapted to be suspended below the ceiling of a room to be air conditioned comprises a heat pump system within a flat box-shaped casing divided into three channels by partitions 17 and 18, the heat pump system comprising a compressor and includes a heat exchanger Hx in heat exchange relation with an air current flowing through channel 10x via inlet and outlet air ducts 5 and 6 communicating with the atmosphere, and another heat exchanger He mounted on the bottom wall of the casing, thereby forming a radiant heating or cooling panel. A third heat exchanger Hi situated in channel 10i is in heat exchange relation with air in the room which enters and leaves through openings 15i and 16x. Blowers Bx and Bi driven by a motor MB are used to circulate the air. The compressor, motor, a reversing valve RV are all situated in the centre channel 10m which can be selectively connected to either of the other channels by valves 31, 32, 33, 34 operated through levers 37 and 38 by a pneumatic bulb 39. The heat pump system is connected as shown in Fig. 8, Rx, Ri and Rc representing restrictors and Ux, Ui and Uc unidirectional valves. During heating the circuits established are Cp - RVp - RVi - Hi - U i -Y-F-Rx-Hx-RVx-RVs-Cs and Cp-RVp-RVi-CPV-Hc-Uc-Y-F-Rx- Hx-RVx-RVs-Cs. The liquid refrigerant passing through Rx will evaporate in Hx which will cool and absorb heat from the atmospheric air in channel 10x, the gas will then pass through the compressor to the heat exchangers Hi and He where it will condense and give up its heat to the room air which by the valve arrangement in Fig. 5 (not shown) will be flowing through channels 10i and 10m. During cooling the circuits established are Cp-RVp-RVx-Hx-Ux- Y-F-Ri-Hi-RVi-RVs-Cs and Cp- RVp - RVx - Hx - Ux - Y - F - Rc - Hc - CPVRVi-RVs-Cs, the refrigerant acting in the opposite manner as for heating, with the valves arranged as in Fig. 6 (not shown) allowing atmospheric air in the channels 10x and 10m. The heat generated by the compressor during the heating operation is utilized to heat the room air and during the cooling operation passes to the atmosphere. Moisture which condenses on the heat exchangers is collected in trays situated below them, the water being collected and sprayed selectively over the heat exchangers Hx and Hi to increase the efficiency of the heat pump system. An alternative arrangement of radiant panel is shown in Fig. 4 with the coil Hc mounted below the bottom wall 111 of the casing and fitted with a separate radiant panel 112, having perforations 114 and being filled with sound clamping material 115.
