Belts.-The edges of a conveyer, driving, or other belt, consisting of transverse intercoiled wire helices a, are protected by longitudinal helices b of larger diameter. The pitch of the coils b is slightly greater than the distance between adjacent coils a, so that the longitudinal coils tend to extend the belt. The coils b and also the coils a may be flattened. Inside the coil b there may be arranged two additional longitudinal coils c, d. One of these is pressed on to one face of the belt, and other is then intercoiled with it from the other face. The fabric of the belt may be filled with pitch or other substance and may be covered with paper, &c.
