Abstract
1,038,871. Conductive polyurethane compositions. ACHESON INDUSTRIES Inc. Jan. 21, 1964 [Jan. 22, 1963], No. 2733/63. Heading C3R. An electrically conductive polyurethane composition is prepared by curing a mixture comprising (i) a polymer containing free -OH groups, (ii) a polyisocyanate or polyisothiocyanate and (iii) a conductive particulate solid (defined) the total weight of (i) plus (ii) being not greater than the weight of (iii) in the mixture. The polymer may be a polyether, polyester or polyesteramide. The conductive solid is defined as having a volume electrical resistivity at 0‹ C. not greater than 3500 microhmcm., e.g. powdered metal such as silver, copper, nickel, silver plated copper, or conductive carbon such as graphite. The polyurethane precursors may be dissolved in a solvent, e.g. organic esters or ketones. The invention also comprises a two part pack, one pact containing component (i) and the other containing component (ii), the component (iii) being in admixture with either or both of components (i) and (ii). The polyisocyanate may be blocked. In Example (1), 5 parts a dispersion comprising 87À7% silver powder, 6À15% " Desmophen " (Registered Trade Mark) 1100 polyester in ethylene glycol acetate was prepared and mixed with 1 part of a 29À1% solution of " Desmodur " L (Registered Trade Mark) polyisocyanate in 1: 1 ethylene glycol acetate: xylene. The composition was used to make the connection between the silver stripe and end cap of a fluorescent tube and was cured at 120‹ C. for 1 hour to give a resistivity of about 10<SP>-2</SP> ohms-cms.
