Abstract
1,038,620. Telescopic hydraulic rams. TOUSSAINT & HESS HYDRAULISCHE HEBEZEUGFABRIK G.m.b.H. June 29, 1965 [Feb. 17, 1965], No. 27562/65. Heading F1P. A telescopic hydraulic ram comprises concentric cylinders 10, 14, 19 with end walls 11, 15, 20, and a plunger 24 in the smallest cylinder 19. Hydraulic fluid is admitted through a passage 12 to the space between the end walls 11 and 15, to displace the cylinder 14, the cylinder 19 and plunger 24 being displaced by fluid forced from the annular spaces 17, 22, to the spaces 29, 31, the cylinders and plunger. then moving at speeds which have a fixed ratio to one another. Valves 34, 39 are located in the end walls 15, 20 and are opened when the ram is retracted by engagement with a piston 44 in the end wall 11 (Fig. 1, not shown). This ensures that the cylinders and plunger are all able to reach the ends of their stroke. The valves are closed before the ram is extended by fluid pressure acting on the piston 44 to move it to the position shown.
