Abstract

1,038,561. Engine turning gear. C. A. V. Ltd. Dec. 17, 1963 [Nov. l 1962], No. 43594/62. Heading F1K. The invention relates to electric starting mechanism for internal-combustion engines of the kind comprising a casing 1 containing an electric motor, the casing having a mounting plate 16 through which one end of the rotor shaft extends and a pinion 9 on the shaft for engagement with a toothed engine wheel. According to the invention the mounting plate is shaped to define a recess in which is accommodated a shouldered end of a cover 6 carrying a bearing 5 for the outer end of the rotor shaft, the cover being secured to the motor casing by means of an apertured disc 17 secured to the mounting plate and overlapping the shoulder 6a of the cover. The mounting plate 16 is secured to the casing 1 by means of a pair of relatively long bolts 20 extending to the rear end of the mechanism. Between the plate 16 and the casing 1 is interposed a hollow cylindrical part 21 formed from a transparent material such for example as a polycarbonate.
